Eugenio Viola _ Verso l'ecocidio?

Ibridi anomali, a tratti spiazzanti.

Eugenio Viola _ Towards Ecocide?

Eco Art Book - pubblished for the exhibition of the finalists of the competition Pure Water Vision _ Roma 2010

An ironically pop imagery, combined with a fascination for all that is rejected and a feeling for recycling, underlies the poetics of Antonio De Pascale, whose work becomes a process whit a strong symbolic content. The artist concentrates on the excesses of the consumer society through a crafted approach to the pictorial depiction, exhibited and at the same time contradicted by the aspiration to three-dimensional that the artist imposes on it. The canvas is not a mere support for the picture: suitably trated, it becomes the means by which the artist also reconstructs the phisical features of the object depicted. Abnormal and sometimes alienating hibrids. Abnormal and sometimes alienating hibrids. His pictures become re-packaging, works that play on this alienation, giving rise to a paradox, as in the Real Time series, in which the canvas is the skin not only of the image, but also of a mental process that still preserves reminiscences of the starting point. "The decision to paint and reconstruct images and packaging of products made on a industrial scale using the instruments of painting (not only the techical ones) directly" - affirms the artist - allows me to produce a short-circuit in the reality of making per se, an accident og a linguistic nature that prefigure the visual ones that are subsequently depicted".
